New Skynet Boxen
by David Dolphin on Feb.27, 2007, under Skynet
Skynet recently purchased some new kitt (no pun intended) in the form of 3 dual-core Opterons with 2Gigs of RAM each (gir, caro and skynet) and a Pentium D with a Gig of RAM (kitt).
I helped physically install some of the boxes, and I must say, the Rails shipped with the Opterons were unbelievably easy to install. Dell call them “Sliding Combination Rapid/Versa Rail with CMA” and if you can get your hands on some I would thoroughly recommend it.
I took some low quality photos of the servers just after they were installed. Hopefully someone will shoot some better shots at some stage. The photos can be found here and here.
Recent Stuffs

Firstly, Congrats to Steve and Noirin, may they aim to out-pedant each other for many years to come.
I’ve been up to many things over the last while which I haven’t posted about.
I went to Scotland to visit Meg for her birthday, and also went down to Stockton to visit Poppy for a night. Photos of the trip can be found in my new flickr account.
I was given A Weekend in the City as a present from Meg and I purchased The Prayer on Vinyl (which happens to be my first Vinyl) while I was in Scotland. I’ll write a review some time soon.
I got Perspective up and running at work. It’s quite impressive and I would recommend anyone in a Windows based environment to check it out.
SkyCon happened. And it went quite smoothly. I met some great people at the conference (of which I have taken some photos). I also took 6 hours of video which I will be processing and editing over the next few weeks. Watch this space. I was also interviewed by the LugRadio guys for their show which should be online on Monday the 26th.
I started a new semester in UL which is cool, finally we have some computer related modules again (I’m currently in AM-061).
I finally got listed on Planet Nonado, seven months after I ask that my blog be aggregated. *grin*
